New Gnome Stuff
The Gnome guys are at it again, as Eric Raymond said, "A good programmer knows what to write, a great programmer knows what to rewrite (and reuse)."

Gnome hacker Seth Nickell (of Storage fame) announced on his blog that the new version of gnome-blog is ready for download. It sits in your panel and allows for quick and dirty blogging with minimal clicks. You can drag and drop images for insertion, and edited text is WYSIWYG.

Also, Mikael Hallendal has developed a clone of the Mac meta-launcher Quicksilver. It's a tool for both launching applications and organizing documents. I have yet to review this application, but it looks slick and I can't wait to try it out. I think the Mac guys hold the corner on usability and economy of user interface and I'd love to see Linux and Gnome take a lesson from Mac in that respect. For more info, check out the project's home page: it's called GNOME Launch Box.

Images from the Route Canal
Playing the part of Gordon Freeman, (under Linux, yippee!) I finally escaped the reaches of the Combine forces in City 17 by means of a long series of hidden canals. Alternating between foot travel and a really nifty single-seat airboat, I overcame the throngs of the dystopian, totalitarian Combine "civilian protection" (read: Gestapo) to make my way out of the city center. Thankfully, I still had my trusty hazard suit from the first installment which fits like a glove, or at least "the glove parts do", a subtle indication that Gordon Freeman might have put on some weight since the Black Mesa incident.

In addition to a trusty hazard suit and an impressive array of weapons, Gordon Freeman also carries a digital camera and thus is able to bring you all some photo documentation from the journey. Enjoy.

Departing the last of the canals.

After an encounter with a nasty helicopter carrying bombs and guns, I pause to watch a nice sunset.

Then, a puzzle of sorts. Involving ramps and large precipices.

La Resistance. I've finally arrived at "Black Mesa East"

My fan club.

Eli and his daughter Alex.

Updates due soon from Ravenholm. We don't go there anymore.
