Some thoughts following Test III . .
Will the Final have more word problems than you saw on Tests I - III? It might. I suggest that you get familiar with the types of applications in the assigned problems and in MML. This is particularly true of Chapters 6 and 10. The emphasis on applications suggests that this is a good idea.

As we close out the course, keep in mind that you will be provided with the same sets of formulas (from Tests I and III) on the Final.

You can expect the format to be very similar.

The Final will definitely be multiple choice (5 selections).

It doesn't seem like it matters too much, since the problem are so similar in MML, but the problems will likely be taken directly from the R&M text.

The list of ("Departmentally") suggested problems (posted under the "syllabus" link) is probably the best preparation for the Final. If you can handle those, you're ready.

Outside of a testing situation, check yourself with a graphing calculor or utility when possible. (I recommend gnuplot, if you wish to do "serious" plotting.) I believe that you can learn a lot by plotting certain things. Consider how difficult this was in general before we had graphing technology. It is rather ironic that you can't use them for testing, but if you are good with "calculator entry," you will soon resort to solving problems using mechanical, rather than cerebral, means.

There were a few details to this material that you weren't tested on here.

Know the latus rectum relation, for example, and the asymptotes of hyperbolas. These are likely to appear on the FE.

Here's a review of that 9.1 introduction. It's possible that there could be some question concerning this of the FE as well.
