In the past, Energy Management concentrated on the obvious, however the waste of energy is sometimes much more subtle than just leaving doors and windows open when air conditioning is operating or leaving lights on in unoccupied spaces. Often time, energy is wasted by simply not taking advantages of available technology. These technologies include, but are not limited to, the use of such things as:
- Photo Cells
- Gas Cooling
- Reflective Coatings
- Solar Technologies
- Alternative Fuels
- Remote Monitoring
- Heat Recovery
- Wind Technology
- Geo-Thermal
During the 2000-01 school year the subcommittee on waste will use $25,000 of the total retrofit budget to explore and implement these often overlooked or underutilized technologies.
New technology reviewed by Energy Management in 1999-2000:
- Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additive
- Gulf Middle Coil Cleaning
- Gas Fired Chillers
